CSRD: Definition and Applicability to the Maritime Sector

The CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) is a European directive adopted in 2021 to harmonise and strengthen sustainability reporting requirements for companies. It replaces the NFRD (Non-Financial Reporting Directive) by imposing more precise and demanding standards for environmental, social and governance (ESG) transparency.

Applicability to the maritime sector

The CSRD applies to many shipping companies operating in the European Union, including :

  • Shipowners and fleet operators (passenger or freight transport).

  • Shipyards and marine equipment manufacturers.

  • Ports and other maritime logistics players.

  • Suppliers of maritime technologies, including solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

These companies must include in their reports information on :

  • Direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3).

  • Strategies to reduce their environmental impact (for example, the adoption of green fuels or digitalisation to optimise efficiency).

  • Social and ethical practices (employee rights, working conditions for seafarers).

How the BoatOn Book helps with CSRD compliance

The BoatOn Book is an innovative technological solution designed to help maritime companies manage their ESG data and prepare their sustainability reports. Its benefits include

Data centralization and management

  • Simplified collection of ESG data: The BoatOn Book brings together all the necessary information (energy consumption, carbon emissions, social data, etc.) in a single system.

  • Real-time monitoring: Sustainability performance can be tracked regularly to anticipate adjustments.

CSRD-compliant reporting

  • Compliance with ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards): The BoatOn Book allows data to be structured according to ESRS standards, making it easy to create detailed, compliant reports.

  • Sector-specific customisation: Adaptation to the specificities of the maritime sector (e.g. data on alternative fuels, energy efficiency of ships).

  •

Performance optimisation

  • Predictive analysis: Identify opportunities to reduce emissions and improve social practices.

  • ESG impact simulations: test the impact of new strategies (e.g. adoption of green fuels or digitalisation).
